Granby, MA - Robert C. Opsitnick, Sr., passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 9, 2024, at his home. Born on December 10, 1933, in Crabtree, PA.  Robert was the son of the late John and Mary (Pavlik) Opsitnick. His life was enriched by his loving wife, June (Emmens) Opsitnick, and their wonderful family, including his children Robert Opsitnick, Jr., with his wife Anna, Debra Randall with her husband Scott, Johna Lemoine with her husband Ray, and his step-daughter Michelle Brunton with her husband Daniel. He is also survived by 10 cherished grandchildren, Robert Opsitnick, Jenna Senofonte, Kelly Nudd, Lisa Kernan, DaniMarie Orihood, Jonathan Carrington, Kirsten Jones, Alexa Crew, EllaGrace Brunton, Abby Brunton and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his ten siblings.

Robert retired in 1994 after 30 years as a route service man with Servomation Corp. in Agawam. Following retirement, he devoted another 22 years to the safety of young minds, serving as a crossing guard at Moiser Elementary School and Michael Smith Middle School in South Hadley. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life, reflecting in his military duty as a proud veteran of the US Air Force. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Affairs and the American Legion.  

He was a member of the Chicopee Sportsman's Club and the Ludlow Fish and Game. He enjoyed hunting, shooting competitions, snowmobiling, and bowling. An avid Red Sox fan, Robert loved gathering with his family, cherishing these moments dearly. He had a special affection for German Shepherds, remembering fondly his three companions: Magnum, Sabrina, and Belle.

Calling hours will be held on Mon., Nov. 18th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, followed by words of remembrance at 6:00 pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home.  Burial will take place privately at the Mass. Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in his memory to the VNA & Hospice of Holyoke or to the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, a respected foundation valued deeply by Robert.
