Virginia Susan Houchins, 93, of Church Hill went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 8, 2024 at her home with her family by her side. She was born in Hawkins County to the late Cornelius and Ida Vaughn. Virginia was a graduate of The Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy in 1949 and Carson Newman College in 1954. She went on to teach at Spruce Pine and the Memphis City School System for over 40 years. Virginia was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Church Hill. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Houchins; sisters, Irene White and Oda Mae Livesay; brothers, Napoleon, Fred, William, and Cornelius Vaughn.
Survivors include her son, Greg Houchins (Karen Hammonds); brother, Tom “T.J.” Vaughn; along with a host of friends and extended family.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11am on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Highland Cemetery in Rogersville with Pastor Gary Gerhardt officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50am.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Smokey Mountain Hospice, and her caregivers, Kelly and Glenda for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Church Hill Emergency Food Service or a charity of your choice.
