Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Aunt and friend to many, Barbara Elliott Cottrell, 86, passed away on 11/7/2024 in Mooresville, NC. Barbara was born to Fredrick and Margaret Young, on May 24, 1938, in Durham, England. She moved to Greenville, Mississippi in 1950, and was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Willie Elliott and Ernest D. Elliott, respectively. After studying at Mississippi Baptist College, she worked 30+ years as an elementary school teacher in West Virginia and Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Guy Jones Cottrell III, until his death in 2020. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Guy Jones Cottrell IV (Wendy) and Heather Cottrell Creel (Kenneth). She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Caroline Hargis, Haley Creel, Kathryn Creel, Hannah Creel, and her one great-grandchild, Holly Hargis.
