Howard Lloyd McCright returned home to his Lord on November 8th, 2024. Howard always proclaimed that he would live to be 100 years old. At just a month short of 96, he gave it a very valiant effort.

Howard was born on December 21, 1928, in Gregory, South Dakota to William and Verona McCright. After graduating high school, he entered the US Army as an enlisted personnel member. After 14 years he attended warrant officer school and obtained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He retired after serving his country for 20 years and it was a great source of pride.

Howard was naturally mechanically inclined and could repair, improve or invent almost anything. He loved working on everything from regular vehicles, hot rods and race cars to large military vehicles. He was given the nickname “Crazy Mac” because often when faced with a challenge his solution was considered impossible. The comments “you can’t do that, you’re crazy, Mac” were heard more often than not.

In September 1975 Howard made a total commitment to the Lord. He spent the next 49 years as a student of the Bible and had read the bible cover to cover over 100 times and the new testament over 1000 times. He became an ordained minister and loved sharing his testimony and teaching others about God. He could often be found at a local restaurant holding bible study or making new friends with the patrons as he shared his story.

Howard is survived by his brother James Alan McCright, his children Debby Wassom, Michael (Shea) McCright, Lloyd (Dawn) McCright, and Janice Kennedy, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grand child. Howard also had several stepchildren and step grandchildren that he considered his own.

Howard is proceeded in death by his loving wife, Ruthea McCright, his parents William Dwight McCright and Verona Estella McCright, sister Billy Wetterer, brother Gerald McCright, son Dwight McCright, and daughter Kathy Wrage.

Services for Howard will be held at Angel Valley Mortuary in Tucson, AZ on Saturday November 16th at 10:00 am. The family welcomes donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers. https://www.stjude.org
