Patricia Louise Schuch
April 25th, 1941 - November 3rd, 2024
Patricia Louise Carroll was born on April 25th, 1941 in Alma, Nebraska to Jereme Carroll and Elsie Beth Devars. She was the sister of Leanna Carroll (deceased), Donald Carroll, Edward Carroll, and Margaret Jackson (deceased).
She grew up in Meeker, Colorado and graduated from Rio Blanco County High School in 1959.
She was married to John Whiteley in 1960 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Together, they had five kids: Deborah (deceased), Daniel, Darryal, Butch (deceased), and Deanna. They divorced in 1971.
As a single mom of five, Patricia exemplified the true meaning of selflessness and grit. No, life wasn’t always easy for her; loss and struggle often seemed to lurk right at the surface, yet she persevered, very rarely putting her needs ahead of those around her.
She often worked two to three jobs at a time to provide for her family, working long hours as a police and fire dispatcher as well as a loan officer at Avco Financial Services in South Dakota. One of her proudest accomplishments in this life was when she was promoted to manager of the Aberdeen office after only two years on the job.
The self-professed “best day of her life” was on February 1st, 1985, when she married the love of her life, Edward Schuch. A tale as old as time, this union proved to be a real life example that good things are worth the wait. Grandpa Ed took on Patricia’s children as his own while never taking his eyes off his bride. Watching the two of them together through the years made others believe that true love is, in fact, possible. They spent 28 years together until Ed’s death in 2013. Truly these were the happiest years of Patricia’s life.
Patricia was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Church on March 31st, 1985 in Bismarck, North Dakota. She continued her membership and faithfully attended services at St. John Lutheran Church in Canon City, Colorado, until the day of her passing.
Patricia was a loyal mother to 5, a dedicated grandmother to 11, and a doting great grandma to 23. Nothing brought her more joy in her final years than visits from her kids, occasional calls from her grandkids, and tracking the athletic exploits of her great grandchildren.
Patricia loved dancing, playing the piano, baking, and playing Rummikub with her friends at The Village. She loved holiday get-togethers and even discovered a late-life fascination with Temu, filling her closet with the best values she could find (and, oh, did she find them).
A true example to us all, Patricia will always be remembered for her infectious smile that lifted up those around her, for her sometimes biting cynicism that kept her balanced, and for her compassionate heart that was always open to love no matter the circumstances.
