Karen Marie McLaughlin
October 26th, 1958 - November 7th, 2024
McLaughlin, Karen, 66, born on October 26, 1958, passed away surrounded by family on November 7, 2024, in Sun City Center. Born at Arlington Hospital, in Arlington Virginia, Karen grew up in Fairfax County where she attended West Springfield High School. She later attended Barbizon School of Design.
Later in life Karen was remembered for her time working in the school systems. Whether that was volunteering for the PTA, in the classrooms, or the front office, she just wanted to be closer to her boys, for whom she took every chance to boast about.
Most notably, Karen will be remembered for how she made others feel. She never wanted to be the life of the party, but she sure did want to host it. Her ability to make those around her feel known and loved was one of her best qualities. She loved the Lord unconditionally and her children just the same. She had an adventurous spirit and willingness to always try something new. Over everything else, she would like to be remembered for being an extraordinary mother and a devoted wife.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Van Horn. Karen is survived by her mother Lois Van Horn; sister Debbie Cartee; husband Scott McLaughlin; two sons Corey Heitzmann and Connor Heitzmann; grandchildren Isla Heitzmann and John-Wells Heitzmann.
Karen’s celebration of life will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church Saturday February 1, 2025, at 4 PM.
