James Clifton Janak, affectionately known as "Big Jim" passed away on October 29, 2024, in Englewood, Colorado, at

the age of 84. Born on September 18,1940, in Amarillo, Texas. Jim was a pillar of warmth and generosity throughout his

    life.

Jim's personal life was rich with love and laughter, shared with his late wife Carolyn J. Janak, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Laurie (Peter) VanWickler, Chandler (Barb) Janak, Marla (Pat) Monahan, Shane (Courtney) Janak; grandchildren, Danielle Nider, Kendall (Devon) Santorno, Brooke Janak, Cael Monahan, Finn Monahan, Cowen Monahan; and great-grandchildren, Brantly Nider, Hudson Nider, Kylie Santorno. His sister, Joni Janak, also survives him.

Jim's early education was completed at Amarillo High School in 1959, after which he pursued further studies at Texas Tech University.  Jim was a musician who enjoyed playing many instruments.  His entrepreneurial spirit led him to Lakewood, Colorado where he owned and operated  "Big Jim's Mountair Liquor Store" from 1974 until 2007, where he was not just a businessman but a cherished community figure.

A member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denver, Jim carried his faith into every aspect of his life.

He was passionate about many things, including Jazz music—a love amplified by listening to his sister Joni perform. He also had a passion for the Giant Schnauzer dog breed. He loved many Giant Schnauzers during his lifetime including his companion Marshall who he left behind. He and his wife Carolyn started a rescue organization to help save and rehome Giant Schnauzers in need.  Jim had a passion for hunting with his sons and friends, fishing and "sideline coaching" baseball. Jim was a historian by nature.  He loved sharing facts and information with friends and family.  Jim was an avid sports fan, he loved cheering on the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Jim will be laid to rest in a private ceremony alongside his wife at Golden Cemetery in Golden, Colorado.

A Celebration of Life party is planned for the Spring of 2025, with details to be announced in the future.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to HT-Z Giant Schnauzer Rescue at htzrescue.com, supporting a cause close to his heart.

Jim's legacy is one of boundless affection,  and an unending passion for life's many joys. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
