Dorothy "Dot" Godfrey Shuman, 96, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Born May 5, 1928, in Charlotte, she was the eldest child of the late Johnson "Kelly" and Marzie Baker Godfrey. Dot grew up in the Sharon Community,  where her family was very active in Sharon Presbyterian Church.  As a teenager Dot worked at the soda counter at Walgreens downtown. After graduating high school, she sold accessories for Al Goodman's shoe store until she got married. Dot wed her husband, Jack N. Shuman Sr. in 1951. They had 2 children and were blessed to be able to travel the world together for the family business. The Shuman family were devoted attendees of Providence United Methodist Church. Dot loved garden club and was an avid bridge player. Dot and Jack spent 54 years together before he passed away. 

She was strong in spirit and mind, surprisingly funny, and always gracious to those that helped her. She took great joy in talking about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dot is survived by her son, Jack Shuman Jr. (Michelle), their children Tracey Schacher, Joyce Powell, and MJ Shuman (Jarrad), as well as her granddaughter Jackie Butcher (Jonah).  Dot also leaves behind 3 adorable great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Lail, and siblings, Jimmy Godfrey and Peggy Godfrey Britt.

Memorial service to be held Saturday November 16, 2024, at 5pm in the historic chapel at Sharon Presbyterian Church.

 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dot's honor to the charity or establishment of your choice.
