It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Clara Mae Jones Braswell Smith, who left this world on November 15, 2024. Visitation for Clara Mae Jones Braswell Smith will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. A memorial service will honor her at First Baptist Church Garmon Street on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM. where her spirit will be celebrated, and her life story shared among those who loved her deeply.

 

Born Clara Mae Jones in Crawford, Georgia, on November 3, 1943, she lived a life full of love for her family and commitment to others well-being. Throughout her years, Clara brought kindness and meals to all who knew her. A member of First Baptist Church Garmon Street, Clara found deep joy and meaning in her faith. Her dedication extended beyond her beloved family to a long and fulfilling career with Houston County Board of Education as a bus driver. Her service was not just in driving but in guiding and protecting the young lives that entrusted her daily hands. The children who boarded her bus each day were cared for with the same love and motherly attention she bestowed upon her family.

 

Clara was preceded in death by her father, Joe Harris Jones, her mother, Mattie Pearl Reeves Jones, as well as her sisters, Annie Jo Heath, Georgia Ann Murchison, brother, Tommy Jones, and grandson Marvence Braswell. She leaves behind a loving family whose lives she so richly touched: her devoted children: Mae Washington, Maggie Brown (Quintin), Sarah Braswell, Anthony Braswell (Tesserie), Bobby Braswell, Barbara Anderson (Tony), Clara Braswell, and Debbie Scott (Henry). Cherished grandchildren: Shawnte Anthony (Vinson), Tamaria Washington, Alvin Washington Jr, Kannisha Homer, Shantori Brown, Devyn Brown, Tenisha Smith (Kelvin), Anthony Braswell Jr, Jodeci Braswell, Jorden Braswell, Janaa Durden (Trenton), Jontavos Richardson, Alexia Anderson, Anthony Anderson Jr, Henry Scott III (Diyanah), Joshua Scott. Adored great-grandchildren: Hayleigh Anthony, Hayden Anthony, McKenzie Washington, Hannah Homer, Jabari Homer, Kaivion Braswell, KeMarion Durham, Amoree Smith, Xavier Smith, Chasen Braswell, Chyanne Braswell, Braelyn Braswell, Trenton Durden, Zayden Durden, Kamden Banks, Zaire Porter, Olivia Scott, Henry Scott IV and Godson, Raymond Paul Nelson.

 

Her surviving siblings include: Christine Jones, John Jones (Gladys), and her sister-in-law, Bernice Jones. Clara's legacy also lives on in her many nieces and nephews. In her time with us, Clara taught the values of relentless love, and the joy found in service to others, leaving a legacy of tenderness and faith for future generations. She will be dearly missed yet forever cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.
