Richard Charles Buhler

Reverend Richard C. Buhler, born on February 3, 1924, in Plum Coulee, Manitoba, Canada, was the youngest of 27 children born to Abram and Susana Buhler. Richard passed away on November 9, 2024, at the age of 100 years and 9 months. His life was marked by a deep commitment to faith, education, and service to others.

At the age of 18, Richard embarked on his spiritual journey by attending Prairie Bible College, where he graduated four years later. His dedication to his faith led him to Wainwright, Alberta, where he was called to start a church. Richard served the community there for two years before deciding to further his education. He attended Macalester College, earning his BA, and then pursued a Master's Degree from the University of Minnesota.

During his time at Macalester College, Richard met the love of his life, Janet Geske. The couple married in April 1955 and began a life together filled with love, faith, and service. Richard continued his ministry, serving at several churches in Nebraska and Minnesota. Eventually, he moved his family to California, where he served at First Baptist of Pacifica, which later became Vista Del Mar.

Richard and Janet were blessed with five children: Cathy, Susan, Steven (Tracy), Gregory (Cynthia), and Scott (Kristin). Their family grew to include ten grandchildren: Jordan, Jane, Natalie, Christian, Gina, Ryan, Richard, Benjamin, Jacob, and Lukas. Richard's dedication to his family was evident in the strong bonds he built with each of his children and grandchildren.

In 1986, Richard retired from his formal ministry but continued to serve through many churches and build homes with his sons. His commitment to helping others and his unwavering faith remained central to his life even in retirement.

Janet preceded Richard in death in 2019, but the couple shared 64 wonderful years together, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. Richard will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and ministry.

Services will be held on November 21, 2024 - 10:00am at Newcastle Cemetery Pavilion located at 850 Taylor Rd, Newcastle, CA 95658, with a reception following at the Newcastle Portuguese Hall.
