Vessey Funeral Service - Fort Collins
Wayne E. Steffen
May 29th, 1933 - November 16th, 2024
Wayne Edward Steffen, 91 years old, of Fort Collins, Colorado entered into eternal rest on November 16, 2024, with his loving daughter Kim by his side. Wayne was born in Sterling Colorado to John and Thelma Steffen on May 29, 1933. Wayne graduated from Wellington High School in 1951, where he lettered in basketball and football. In May 1953 Wayne was drafted into the Army near the end of the Korean war and he was one of the few picked to go to Germany. He served for two years and then ended up in California and worked in construction and as a bartender for a couple years. Wayne then found his way back to Colorado in 1959 where he farmed in the Wellington area and met the love of his life Marilyn Ramsey. They married at the justice of the peace in Raton, New Mexico on January 11, 1960 at 4:25 in the afternoon. In 1967Wayne purchased the Amoco filling station in east Fort Collins that became Wayne’s Interstate Standard and he ran that for 18 years where he was adored by all of his customers and would always help them with all of their needs. After selling the service station he went to work for two of the most amazing individuals Jim and Jane Johnston at Interstate Batteries in Fort Collins. He drove truck and worked in the warehouse for many years until he finally retired. Wayne and Marilyn spent many summers in Arizona with good friends Dean and Karen Harrison and then moved to Mesa, Arizona in 2004 for a few years and then made their way back to Fort Collins, Colorado. Wayne loved to go on adventures and drives, and look at the landscape or bein the mountains. He loved to play cards, feed the local squirrels, and he also loved to watch his great grandkids play sports or enjoy visiting with them during the holidays. The other thing that stood out with Wayne was how dogs gravitated to him, no matter who they belonged to, they knew he was a sucker. Wayne was loved by all that met him, his calm demeanor and kind heart attracted people to him and he was considered a trusted and loyal friend. Survivors include his three daughters, Cindy (Doug) Drake, Colorado. Sandy Steffen, Mississippi, and Kim Steffen, Florida. Two sisters, Barbara Johnson, Colorado and Florence Crow, Arizona. He is survived by 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Wayne is preceded in death by his loving wife Marilyn, two sons Kenneth Dean and Randy Dwayne, grandson Anthony Lee, his parents, and two sisters, Janice and Wanda.
