Mildred Annette Odom
December 20th, 1940 - November 16th, 2024
Mildred Annette Odom of Centerville, Georgia left this earth on Saturday, November 16th after a long illness.
The fourth child of Landy and Rachel Jeffcoat, Mildred was born on December 20, 1940 in Augusta, Georgia. As a young child she became very ill with a severe liver disease and was not expected to survive. But her family and friends called upon the Lord and prayed for her healing. By His hand she was healed and restored to her family.
In the years that God granted her Mildred became a wife and mother. She gave birth to Treasure, Clay, Karen, Tracey, Donna and Laura. As a Navy wife she traveled extensively and lived in exciting places like Bermuda, Cuba and Italy. Along the way she taught herself to sew, crochet and decorate cakes. She was involved in her children’s education and often took on responsibilities as the “room mother”. And in a little church in East Machias, Maine she accepted Christ as her savior. After that you could often find her in a Sunday School room teaching children about Jesus.
After her children were grown Mildred spent many years as a retail sales associate, first at Sears and later at JC Penney’s. With her self taught skills in sewing she became an expert on custom drapery. She was diligent about her work and would eventually be promoted to department head. All while caring for her bedridden widowed father.
At her father’s passing Mildred retired to Warner Robins to be with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed many years of family meals and vacations, birthdays and graduations. She was a daily part of her grandchildren’s lives and their lives were richer for it.
Mildred was neither rich nor famous. But she freely gave of herself until she had nothing else to give. Her family will miss her dearly but they rejoice to know that she is with Jesus.
Mildred is survived by her daughters Treasure Grimes, Karen Wright Culver, Tracey Jackson, Donna Santana (Ray), and Laura Westfall (Tom), and by her grandchildren Kristen Hardy (Alan), Katelyn Jackson, Christopher Henry, Isaac Henry, Benjamin Roeder (Allie), Megan Wheat (Levi), and Christian Heatherly, and her great grandson Oliver Roeder.
