Margaret Frueh Sells
November 18th, 1944 - November 9th, 2024
Margaret (Margi) Frueh Sells, 79, formerly of Mission Hills, KS, passed away on Saturday, Nov 9th, 2024 in Tampa, FL with her loving daughter, Lorelei, by her side. Margi was raised in Maryville, MO. She was the 3rd of 7 siblings.
After high school Margi went to nursing training at St. Mary’s Hospital where she became a staff nurse. During that time she met Ken Sells, the love of her life, and they were married in 1970. In 1971, Margi went to KU to receive a BS in nursing, then, a Master’s of Nursing in 1985.
Margi and Ken had many similar interests. They both obtained a pilots’ license and bought a plane that they enjoyed. Their love of sailing caused them to buy a small sailboat, the “Lorelei”, which they kept at their Lake of the Ozarks house. So many of us have fond memories of weekends at the lake. Ken and Margi were equal partners in all endeavors from flying and sailing to being advocates for the KC Rowing Club. They hosted so many events in their lovely Mission Hills home.
Margi had so many attributes. She was proud of her volunteer work at Habitat for Humanity and the Democratic Party. She went to UMKC Law School in 1992 and then worked in private practice in family law.
Margi loved reading and had at least 6 books with her at all times. Her meals were award winning. Her house was always open. If she wasn’t home, you could always go in and grab a treat from the cookie jar. She loved to run and competed in the Boston Marathon a number of times. She excelled at gardening, carpentry, weaving, knitting….there was nothing she could not master! Margi loved to ride her bike, so much that she biked across the USA twice!
Margi’s favorite activity was sailing! Ken and Margi bought a boat, Lorelei II, when they retired in 2001 to sail across the world. They lived on the boat with their cat Pluto enjoying travel throughout Mexico, Central America, The Caribbean, and the east coast of the US. They traveled through the Panama Canal on Christmas Day, 2003. Their plans changed when Ken passed away. In 2014 Margi purchased a smaller boat , Kenship, and moved to Florida. Margi traveled but Florida and Lorelei became her home base. Lorelei was with Margi upon her death.
In lieu of flowers, Margi would love donations to Habitat for Humanity or a charity of your choice.
