Veronica Gentry Hutchins
November 17th, 1942 - November 12th, 2024
Veronica Hutchins, beloved “Nana”, of Lexington, SC passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the age of 81. Loved by everyone who knew her, she never met a stranger and never missed the opportunity to help someone in need.
Nana would say her greatest accomplishments in life were her three children and grandchildren…but those blessed enough to know and love her would say they were her unyielding faith, naturally giving heart and never-ending smile.
As a mother, she had the unique gift of making any house a home and all holidays the brightest imaginable. She taught and lived with unconditional love and the knowledge that having a “tender heart” in this world may not be easy, but that it is always best to look for the good in others. As Nana, she taught that days are best spent “barefootin” at the beach and discovering all the glorious wonders this world has to offer.
Whether on “Country Roads” with John Denver or “Taking it Easy” with The Eagles, Nana’s life was always filled with music and laughter. Those that loved her now find more comfort in those treasured songs than ever before.
Raised the youngest of eight children, Nana was a natural caregiver and took that passion into nursing school where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse from Mitchell Community College in Statesville, NC. She followed her passions into geriatric nursing where she later retired.
Her love of family was built by the strong foundation created and nurtured by her loving parents. She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi Sankey & Beulah Mae Atwood Gentry; brothers, Raeburn (Budd) Gentry, Levi (Junior) Gentry, Jr., Richard (Dick) Gentry, Raeford (Rick) Gentry and sisters, Wilma Gentry, Earlene Merriman and Rachel Crews and by her daughter, Melanie Bennett.
Nana is survived by her son, Chip Hutchins, daughter, Sheri Hutchins and grandchildren, Hayes Bennett Anderson and Jeb Bennett (Melanie & David Bennett).
The family will have a private celebration to honor the life of this beloved soul. Should you feel led, the family asks that you make donations to the Alzheimer's Association – Western Carolina Chapter 4600 Park Rd, Ste 250, Charlotte NC, 28209.
