James Edwin Turner, a vibrant and cherished soul, passed peacefully from this life on November 13, 2024, in Olympia, Washington. Born on November 8, 1940, in Manilla, Phillipines, his journey through life was marked by resilience, compassion, and an unwavering zest for each new day.

James's early years were shaped by extraordinary circumstances; he survived the trials of World War II and a Philippine prison camp at a tender age, experiences that indelibly influenced his positive and warm outlook on life. Following these formative years, James dedicated himself to service, joining the Air Force—a decision that laid the foundation for his disciplined yet nurturing character.

After his military service, James transitioned to a successful career as a real estate agent, a field in which he thrived for nearly five decades—a testament to both his ambition and his dedication to community service.

James was a man of many passions. He was an avid cook, often experimenting with new recipes and sharing his culinary creations with friends and family. Known for his generosity, he delighted in the simple joy of making and giving away popcorn, a small gesture which spoke volumes of his generous nature. His weekends were often spent at garage sales, where his curious spirit led him to countless treasures. Gardening was another of his cherished pastimes, his gardens as warm and inviting as his personality.

In 1998, James married Mary Turner in Tacoma, Washington, a union that would become a source of profound happiness and companionship for him. Throughout their years together, their bond was a beacon of love and devotion.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Turner; stepsons John and Matthew Braithwaite; stepdaughters Wendy Barmore and Yvonne Braithwaite; brothers George and Ken Turner; sister Linda Claypoole; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom continue the legacy of love and laughter he so freely shared. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice Marie and James Edwin Turner, and his brother Arthur Turner.

The ceremony to celebrate James’s life will be held at CVCC Church at 1775 Yew Ave NE, Olympia, WA 98506, with arrangements forthcoming. In remembering James, we celebrate a life that touched many with kindness, cheer, and an unyielding spirit of generosity. He will be dearly missed, yet fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
