Hilda Smith Fletcher, 75, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on July 21, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. She was born on May 9, 1949, in Lexington, Virginia.

Hilda adopted Maryland as her home where she lived most of her adult life. She raised her children, made lifelong friends, and enjoyed life to the fullest.

She fell in love with Baltimore, Annapolis, Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary, Ocean City, and Chesapeake Bay. She enjoyed working in sales and marketing for Kimberly-Clark and Procter and Gamble.

She was a bright and spirited soul who dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed holiday celebrations, music, movies, dancing, parties, cooking, gardening and travel.

She moved to Lexington, Kentucky in 2010, following a year-long illness. She received compassionate, specialized medical care and rehabilitation. She was able to continue her favorite hobbies, including visits to her family and friends as well as vacations to Virginia Beach, VA, Clearwater, Fl., Nashville and Gatlinburg, TN. Lake Cumberland, Kentucky was her favorite vacation spot in Kentucky.

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Berton and Betty Smith, and her son, Robert Fletcher. She is survived by her daughter, Tara (Rich) Fletcher, grandchildren Brittany(Guy) Petriello, Owen and Cody Custer, and four great grandchildren, a sister, Diane (Larry)

Whorley of Lexington Kentucky, and very special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Hilda was a member of St. Raphael’s Episcopal Church, serving on the altar guild. Hilda remained fearless and independent, even in the face of serious illnesses. She showed amazing strength and courage.

There are no words that can express how grateful for the love, support, and medical care Hilda received over the years. We are especially thankful for our church, Lisa Hall, MD, Fresenius Kidney Care, and the many specialists who treated her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A private service will be held at a later date. The family requests that you donate to St. Raphael Episcopal Church, 1891 Parkers Mill, Lexington, Kentucky, 40504 or at https://sreclex.org in lieu of flowers.
