The Island Funeral Home & Crematory
Pauline Homa Hergenroeder
January 26th, 1931 - November 20th, 2024
Pauline (Homa) Hergenroeder, 93, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, surrounded by the immense love of her family.
Born on January 26, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Pauline was the cherished daughter of William and Anna (Sidor) Homa.
She graduated from South Side High School in 1949 and married Second Lieutenant Leo Hergenroeder at West Point, New York, in 1955. Together, they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage, raising six devoted sons who all served honorably in the military: Leo (Ginger), David (Melanie), Daniel (Ann), Mark (Stephanie), Michael (Jean), and Matthew (Caren). Pauline and Leo took great joy in watching their 15 grandchildren—Leo, Ashley, Nick, Alex, Jennifer, John, Katharine, Laura, Nicholas LeBlanc, Matthew, David, Samantha, Kenneth, Sydney and Matthew—and four great-grandchildren—Anna, Daniel, Grace and Andrew—grow and thrive. Pauline found great happiness in their visits and phone calls.
Pauline was a serene and graceful presence, known for her calm and unassuming nature. Beneath this exterior, she was a woman of great kindness, strength, thoughtfulness, faith, generosity, and quick wit. Her gracious and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to a funeral mass at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, 45 Beach City Road, Hilton Head, South Carolina, on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Colonel Leo Hergenroeder, U.S. Army, Retired, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, at a date to be determined.
