Carol Baucom Leonard, 77, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away November 17, 2024. Born April 26, 1947, in Wadesboro, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Artast and Nell Baucom. After graduating from UNCC as part of their second graduating class of nurses in 1969, she worked for Atrium Health- Carolinas Medical Center for 45 years. She loved being a nurse and later a Nursing Supervisor. She showed kindness, empathy, compassion, patience and love to everyone she encountered throughout her life. Her family was the most important part of her life, and she loved spending time with them as much as possible. She was incredibly proud of each ofthem and their accomplishments. She and Joe loved going to the beach and the mountains every year and just spending time together. Carol also loved being outside tending to her flowers and feeding the birds, rabbits and squirrels that visited her yard.
Carol is survived by their children Tonya Lee; Carol Franco (Oscar); Steven Leonard (Desiree), her grandchildren Sebastian Franco (Amber); Dominique Leonard (Tyler); Erin Kriete (Kyle); Maegan Mitchell (Clay) and Lauren Lee as well as her greatgrandchildren Kayleigh Mitchell, Mackenzie Mitchell, Rhea Leonard and Eloise Franco.In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her beloved husband of 42 years Joseph Leonard, her parents Artast and Nell Baucom, her brother Tony Baucom and her great-granddaughter Riley Mitchell.
The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6pm Monday, November 25, 2024, at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 am Tuesday, November 26, 2025, in the funeral home chapel.Interment will follow at 2pm in Rocky Mount Baptist Church Cemetery, 4167 Rocky Mount Church Road, Polkton, NC 28135.Online condolences may be made at www.HankinsandWhittington.com.Donations in Carol’s honor may be made to the UNC-Charlotte School of Nursing to support the education and growth of the next generation of nurses.
