Burgett "John" M Irey
January 1st, 1944 - September 17th, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, brother, grandfather and friend, Burgett “John” M. Irey. Burgett was born on January 01, 1944, in Monmouth, Illinois. He was the son of Rex and Janet B. Irey and was one of six children. He had many fond memories of his childhood and spoke lovingly about his parents and siblings. Burgett graduated from Monmouth High School in 1962 and in 1967 he was drafted into the Army where he was stationed in Germany and later to Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista. While stationed in Arizona, he met the love of his life, Josie. They were married for 55 years and made their home in Douglas Arizona. Burgett worked many years at Phelps Dodge in Bisbee until he retired in 2004. He spent much of his free time working on and collecting cars, a hobby that would span the course of a lifetime.
He is survived by his son Trever Carson (Toni), his daughters Michelle Arvayo (Richard), and Kim Stom and his many grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Ann Kohlmeyer (Dennis), Kay Lovdahl (Cecil), Lynn Irey and his sister-in-law, Carol Irey. He is now reunited with his wife Josie Irey, his son, Johnnie Irey, his sister, Connie Swenson and brother, Roger Irey. He is also preceded in death by his parents Rex and Janet B. Irey as well as many other family members and friends. His memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, may he rest in eternal peace.
Burgett was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Douglas, Arizona where a private memorial service was held.
