Herman Brooks

Herman Brooks, 87, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family in Conway, South Carolina.
Born on December 28, 1936, in Anderson, South Carolina, a son of the late S.A. Joseph and Sally (Mays) Brooks.
Herman was educated in South Carolina, it wasn’t until he joined the United States Army that brought him to West Point, New York. Herman proudly served his country from 1956-1958. Herman continued to stay in New York after the military, eventually getting a custodial job with the Greater Amsterdam School District. After 24 years, Herman retired in 1999. The school held a dinner for Herman where he received a Pin and became a lifetime member of the PTA. Following retirement, Herman moved back to Conway, South Carolina.
He loved to fish, boat and travel. Most of all, Herman was a loving companion, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed.
Herman is survived by his companion of 19 years, Mary Lou Ott; son, Wayne Joseph Brooks; daughters, Terri Louise Ferguson and Sharon Lee Brooks; granddaughters, Stephanie and Julia. Herman was the last living sibling of ten children, all who predeceased him.
Calling hours for Herman will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 3pm to 6pm at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 11am at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 51 N. Pawling Street, Hagaman with Fr. Nate Resila presiding. Burial will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery.
