Georgiana Alice Beames Standafer

Georgiana Beames Standafer (affectionately known as “Mosh” to family and friends), age 99, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024.  Born in Queens, New York, she was a long-time resident of Charlotte arriving from Atlanta in the 1960’s.  She graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1947 where she was an active member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and campus life.  During her junior year, she received the Neukom Award for most outstanding Junior woman on campus.  

While at Miami University, she met her future husband, Carlos “Cork” Standafer, and began raising their family, eventually settling in Charlotte.  She ultimately formed a friendship with Bob Gilley of Gilley & Associates Insurance where she functioned as his executive secretary for over 30 years until her retirement.   

Upon retirement, she and her daughter, Stephanie, purchased RV’s and spent 28 peaceful and quiet summers in Deep Gap, NC, just outside Boone.  They would pack up their beloved dogs and make day trips all over the mountains of North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee befriending many locals.   

Mosh was predeceased by her husband Carl, daughter Stephanie and grandson Daniel. She is survived by her son, Bruce (Carol) Standafer, grand daughter, Chase (Tanner) Hanks and son-in-law, Edward Carlson. 

The family will receive friends at a reception to be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Tribute & Tallent Funeral Service, 1937 N. Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte, NC.  The memorial service will be private.
