Antonio "Tony" R Yobia
October 5th, 1936 - November 21st, 2024
Antonio "Tony" R. Yobia, whose life was a testament to dedication, loyalty, and joy, passed away on November 21, 2024, at the age of 88. He was born in Hiagsam, Leyte, Philippines on October 5, 1936, to Esmeralda Raagas and Julian Yobia. Antonio's journey from the Philippines to the United States was marked by a series of distinguished achievements and cherished relationships.
Antonio excelled academically from a young age, graduating as the Valedictorian of his high school. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Far Eastern University in the Philippines, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in pre-medicine. It was during this period that he met his beloved wife, Josefina, beginning a partnership that was nurtured by shared aspirations and deep affection. In pursuit of further opportunities, Antonio moved to the United States, ultimately making New York his home for over half a century. During this time, he earned an Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology and forged a successful career as a dedicated medical technologist, a profession he passionately pursued until his retirement in 2001.
Antonio was a man of many passions, known for his intelligence, humility, and vibrant sense of humor, which endeared him to friends and family alike. Those close to him will fondly remember his love for ballroom dancing, especially the Tango, which he enjoyed with Josefina by his side. An ardent Mets baseball fan, Antonio’s enthusiasm for life and laughter touched everyone who had the privilege to know him.
After retiring, Antonio moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where he spent his remaining years surrounded by the warmth of his family and friends. He is survived by his brother, Pat Yobia; his children, Roselily Story and Jeffrey Yobia; and his cherished grandsons, Eric and Jeremy, who continue to walk the path illuminated by his love and wisdom.
We will miss his love and spirit and laughter.
