The Island Funeral Home & Crematory
Douglas Thomas Dryburgh
October 15th, 1942 - November 16th, 2024
Douglas Dryburgh passed away peacefully at his home in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on November 16, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Jeanette and his son, Alec.
Doug was born on October 15,1942 in Newark NJ, son of Florence Dryburgh (Lawson) and T. Douglas Dryburgh. He was a devout member of the Roman Catholic faith serving as Eucharistic Minister. Doug was a graduate of the Class of 1960 of Allentown Central Catholic High School, a 1964 graduate of Villanova University with a degree in Biology & a Master’s degree from Muhlenberg College. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve 1965-69.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanette (Hobel) of 57 years, Alec and daughter-in-law Jennifer of Charlotte NC, daughter-in-law Rebecca Dryburgh of Beaverton, Oregon and his cherished five grandchildren; Alison, Emily, Nikko, Abigail and Grant. He is pre-deceased by his son Douglas Dryburgh, Jr. in 2020, a loss he carried deeply.
Doug was a dynamic presence in the apparel and clothing industry, where he enjoyed a successful career as a salesman and executive, receiving numerous awards for his contributions to the industry. His larger-than-life personality, infectious laughter, and unmatched ability to tell a great story made him a friend to everyone he met. An avid golfer, Doug was known for his powerful drives and love of the game. He found joy on the fairways, in the company of friends, and in the camaraderie of the clubhouse. When not on the golf course or spending time with family and friends, Doug could be found riding his Harley or cruising in his Corvette, both of which he was a keen enthusiast. He was also immensely proud of his service in the Marine Corp Reserve, a testament to his strength and dedication.
Doug’s zest for life, whether he was dancing, joking, or lighting up a room with his laughter, leaves a legacy of love and joy. He was the life of every party, a man whose strength and stories will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. His loss leaves a void that can never be filled.
A Funeral Mass to honor Doug’s life will be held at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church in Hilton Head Island on Monday, December 16, 2024 at 10 AM.
