In Loving Memory

On November 24, 2024, we lost our sweet mom, Nana and sister. Elizabeth “Liz” Reilly was born October 21, 1942, in Scotland where she worked as a hairdresser and met her husband Ed. One of her favorite stories that she loved to tell was waving to Queen Elizabeth. When she was walking home from school one day she saw a Rolls Royce drive by....in the back seat it was Queen Elizabeth waving to her.

Shortly after Liz and her husband, Ed were married they moved to Canada where their two children, Mark and Sharon were born. Then in 1971 with Ed's job they moved to Texas, where the whole family became proud US citizens. With her husband's job they had the opportunity to live in California, Pittsburgh and then in 1987 moved to Kernersville, NC. Liz loved moving to Kernersville and felt this was her home. In 1989 after suffering a massive stroke and leaving her paralyzed she never gave up. She made the best out of each day. In the 35 years after her stroke, she traveled to Scotland, Ireland, England and of course her annual trips to the beach.

Everyone she met, she left such a wonderful and beautiful impression. She could light up the room with her smile and little, cheeky laugh. She loved to play jokes (especially with her brother Stephen you never knew what they were going to come up with next). Liz loved to travel. Despite her disabilities when she would go abroad her sister-in-law, Helen would always make sure that Liz had everything she needed and for that she was forever grateful. She loved to play Wii bowling with her grandson, Brandon and loved when her granddaughters, Caitlin and Meghan would do her hair and makeup. Liz always made sure she had her bracelets on, her hair was just right and her little Mary Jane shoes matched her outfit. She always looked forward to her annual Christmas trips to Richmond to be with her son and his family. (Even though her face hurt the whole time from laughing). Liz would always look forward to her son-in-law’s, Gary home cooked meals. Her favorite place to be, was at the beach listening to the waves and taking it all in. Liz was the type of person who worried and cared for everyone else, first. She truly was a gem.

Liz is preceded in death by her husband, Ed Reilly; her mother and father; and brother, Jim.

Survivors include her son, Mark (Anna) Reilly; daughter, Sharon (Gary) Tucker; brother, Stephen (Helen) Gray; grandchildren, Brandon (Rachel) Reilly, Caitlin Reilly (Justin), and Meghan Reilly (Dylan); step-granddaughter, Meagan (Chris Nadeau); two great grandsons, Mason and Beau; and great granddaughter, Blakely.

We miss her terribly, but it gives us peace knowing that she is walking and talking again.

We would like to thank the amazing doctors and nurses at High Point Regional hospital, and the 1 staff and residents at Pennybyrn who she called her second family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00PM Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Noah Carter officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Church Columbarium.
