Shirley C. Beavers, Jr.

Shirley Carlin Beavers, Jr. of Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away on November 22, 2024 at the age of 78 after complications from a massive heart attack.

Shirley was born on November 24, 1945 in Middleburg, VA. He graduated Loudoun County High School in 1963. He earned both his Bachelor and Master degrees from American University in Washington, D.C.

Shirley was blessed with a large and loving family. He and Donna met by blind date, married within the year on December 23, 1967 and soon settled in Great Falls, VA. Their marriage of 58 years was blessed with two children and four grandchildren.

He spent his entire 35 year career with First Virginia Banks, Inc., culminating with serving as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer where he was responsible for the operations and administration of all its banking offices. After the bank was sold to BB&T, Shirley stayed on as a consultant for five years before officially retiring.

Shirley was an active member of the community serving as Chairman of the American Heart Association, Chairman on the Virginia Bankers Association as well as many other boards and committees over the years including the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.

Shirley and Donna were avid golfers and members at River Bend Country Club in Great Falls, VA for over 20 years, with Shirley serving as Club President. After moving to Hilton Head Island, SC in 2006, they quickly became acclimated in the Sea Pines Country Club and in true fashion, Shirley found himself Club President.

Shirley was predeceased by his father, Shirley Carlin, Sr. and mother, Gladys. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his son John (wife Natalie); his daughter Peggy Smith (husband Trevor); his four grandchildren Jay & Kylie Beavers; Ella & Colton Smith; his sister Kathy and brother Norris (wife Liz) along with many cousins.
