Charlotte Hooven Newkirk, 92, of Tribes Hill, NY passed away Monday, November 25, 2024, at St Mary’s Hospital surrounded by family. Charlotte was born on September 21, 1932, in Washington, DC to the late George and Bertha Hooven.
As a result of a blind date and a summer romance she married Kenneth Emory Newkirk of Auriesville, NY on April 4, 1951, in Arlington, VA. They lived in Fort Hunter, NY, then built a home and lived in Tribes Hill.
Charlotte was a homemaker, taught Sunday school, and partnered with her husband in Ken Newkirk Excavating Company and Old Trail Mobile Home Park. Following her husband’s passing she continued to manage both businesses. In her later years Charlotte enjoyed wintering in Bonita Springs, FL and volunteering at a local hospital.
She happily resided in her Tribes Hill home until her passing. She enjoyed playing the organ, painting, birdwatching, reading, doing puzzles, eating Eggo Thick N Fluffy waffles for breakfast, and complaining about not having enough mayonnaise in her daughter’s macaroni salad.
Charlotte is predeceased by her husband Kenneth and brother-in-law David. She leaves behind five children, Glenn (Cathy), Rebecca Rutledge, Paul (Patricia), Douglas (Jeanne), William (Bonnie) and daughter-in-law Karen, sisters-in-law Caroline Herms and Marilyn Sinitzen.
