In Loving Memory

Michael Jay Blakeney, known to family and friends as “Fat Daddy” or “ Fats” was born on September 1, 1966 in Athens, Al. to Arthur G. Blakeney Sr and Vester Lockheart-Blakeney. He spent the 1st years of his life there, then moved to Seaside, Ca. at a young age. Michael accepted Christ as a child and grew up in Community Baptist Church of Pacific Grove, Ca. where he played the drums and spent time as an usher. He loved the Lord and put him at the forefront of his life. He strongly believed in the power of prayer, some called him a prayer warrior.

Michael left a legacy that will never fade. He adored his wife of 28 years and was her protector and soul mate. As the patriarch to his family, he was a mentor and a keeper of his siblings. He took on a father figure role to his nieces and nephews instilling faith, love, integrity and respect. These principles he also lived by every day. He would often recite the scripture 1 Corinthians 14:40 to them: Let all things be done decently and in order. He was also an ally and confidant to anyone who called him a friend. A man who had love and respect for everyone he knew and met. He loved to make people laugh and feel like they had a friend in him, no matter their situation.

He was a great man who was loved by many. He had a personality that could adapt to any situation and anyone. He held no hate in his heart and could always find a middle ground. Always looking at the good in people and finding a way to find the positive in everything. He will be missed dearly.

Michael gained his wings peacefully with his wife by his side. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Gene Blakeney Sr., his mother Vester Willie Mae Lockhart-Blakeney and his brother Arthur Gene Blakeney Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Tiana. His niece Candy who was like a daughter to him. His brother James and three sisters Lora, Naomi and Shirl. His two in laws Matthew and Yvette and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.

His Homegoing Service will be Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Ocean View Baptist Church, 1200 Amador Ave. in Seaside beginning at 10am.  Following the service his burial will take place at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside.

Healey Mortuary

At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
