Janet Rae Alexander, age 86, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, in Sun City, Arizona. Born in Dickinson, North Dakota, on April 14, 1938, Janet was the beloved daughter of Roy and Myrtle Foss. Her life was defined by a deep sense of compassion, a commitment to service, and a love for her family and community.
Janet’s early education led her to a career in nursing, graduating in 1959 as a Registered Nurse from the Hillcrest Medical Center School of Nursing in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her career flourished as she later specialized in Enterostomal Therapy, where she not only provided direct patient care but also trained others in this essential field. Janet’s innovations included the creation of the UB Dry colostomy bag, which improved the lives of countless individuals facing challenging medical conditions. She took great pride in her work, always driven by her desire to help others.
Outside of her professional accomplishments, Janet had a passion for music. An accomplished pianist, she found great joy in playing and was an active member of the Sweet Adelines, where she shared her love of music with others. She also cherished her involvement with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), reflecting her deep respect for history and heritage. Janet’s leadership extended beyond her professional and social circles—she served as president of her Homeowners Association for three years, leaving a lasting positive impact on her Sun City community.
Janet was preceded in death by her second husband, Jay Alexander, who passed away in 2011; her parents, Roy and Myrtle Foss; her sister-in-law, Judy Foss; and her daughter-in-law, Joanne Kellermeyer. Janet is survived by her two sons, Keith and Kurt Kellermeyer; their wives Cara Dennis and Nancy Kellermeyer; respectively, her six grandchildren, Mark, Matt, Kate, Keith, Kaitlyn, and Kris; and her great-grandson, Oliver, who brought her immeasurable joy. She is also survived by her three brothers, Roy (Lettie), John (Mary), and Larry Foss, as well as her beloved furbaby, Cinnamon, who was lovingly cared for by a neighbor when Janet could no longer tend to her.
A Celebration of Janet’s Life will be held at a date to be determined at Church of the Palms United Church, 14808 N Boswell Blvd, Sun City, AZ 85351. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the church in Janet’s name.
