James "Jim" Arthur Evans
November 6th, 1942 - November 25th, 2024
Across the years I will walk with you - in deep green forests; on shores of sand: and when our time on earth is through, in heaven, too, you will have my hand. Robert Sexton
James Arthur Evans was born November 06, 1942, in Glendale, California to Margaret Lucille Smith Moyer and Dean Arthur Moyer. On March 06, 1951, he was baptized at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints St. George Utah Temple and sealed that same day to his mother and his beloved stepfather, Willard Wood Evans, who later adopted him. Growing up, Jim lived in Southern Utah and Wichita, Kansas. As a young adult he moved to Utah where he attended Brigham Young University in Provo and later lived in Salt Lake City where he was called to serve a two-year mission for the church to Australia. He loved his mission and was a dedicated missionary, who was thought of highly by his fellow missionaries and those to whom he taught the gospel. When he returned home, he joined the Utah Army National Guard and served 6 years. About 8 months after returning from Australia God orchestrated him becoming reacquainted with his future wife whom he had first met at her front door 4 ½ years earlier, when the missionaries who were teaching her asked him to give her a ride to the church's youth meeting. About 6 months after meeting again, on April 28th, 1967, Jim and Jeanne were married for Time and All Eternity in the church's Salt Lake City Temple. In August 1968, while living in Salt Lake City, they welcomed a son. In 1969 they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where they welcomed a daughter in 1971, a son in 1972 and another daughter in 1975. Eventually, they made homes in Aurora, Colorado, The Woodlands, Texas and Parker, Colorado. Jim was a loving and devoted husband and father and gave his all to provide for his family. In Bartlesville, Oklahoma he worked full time at Phillips Petroleum Company while finishing his college education and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Sciences (Geology), working his entire career as a successful Geophysicist exploring for oil and gas. In 2007, he started JED Resources, a geophysical consulting company. Jim or Jimmy, as Jeanne called him, was treasured and a most wonderful husband and father, loved and greatly missed beyond words by his wife and family. Jim was a very friendly and likable man. He had a great sense of humor and loved sharing a funny joke with others. He loved God and his Savior Jesus Christ, and he was faithful in reading the scriptures and he strived to walk on holy ground. He loved serving when he was a temple worker and also really loved teaching the younger children's class at church. He had so much love for all his family and his favorite thing was to spend time with them. He cared deeply about their spiritual, physical and emotional wellbeing and he always sought help for them in prayer. He really enjoyed rock hunting and polishing rocks he found or bought. He loved the mountains and the beauty of nature. On family trips he always pointed out the different rock formations and told interesting details about them. Fishing and hunting were also favorites of his. He was so smart and nearly always had the answer to any question asked. He will forever be loved and missed. He passed away November 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Bill Evans, sister Anita Clayton, and nephew Matthew Evans.
