Joey Porter, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep at her home in Fort Collins, Colorado.  She was 76 years old.

Joey was born in Rawlins, Wyoming and raised in Laramie where her parents, Ralph and Lucille Gaston, owned and operated a service station.  She attended Laramie schools and later the University of Wyoming where her values of faith, family, and perseverance began to take root.

In 1966, Joey married her beloved husband, John Porter, beginning a partnership that spanned nearly 6 decades. The couple first lived in Denver where their son Shawn was born.  They later returned to Laramie for John’s work and welcomed their daughter Tawnya. The family ultimately settled in Fort Collins, which Joey lovingly called home for the rest of her life.

Joey had a deep love of home décor and a natural talent for sales, leading her to an extremely successful career in real estate. She began her career at Wheeler Realty in 1976 and joined The Group, Inc. in 1979, where she became a trusted advisor to countless clients.  Ten years ago, Joey’s career came full circle when her daughter, Tawnya, joined her in the business, creating a dynamic mother-daughter team.  Joey was a proud member of the Board of Realtors and the Women’s Council of Realtors and was honored with Realtor Emeritus status in 2018 for her distinguished career.

A woman of unwavering faith, Joey was deeply spiritual and actively involved in several Christian groups throughout her life. Her faith guided her every step and was a source of inspiration to those around her.

Joey’s family was the center of her world. She cherished her six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and light to her life. Known for her kindness and generosity, Joey built enduring relationships with her family, friends, and clients, treating everyone with genuine care and love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Lucille Gaston, and her sister, Kristy Kingery. She is survived by her husband, John Porter; her children, Shawn (Kim) Porter and Tawnya (Roy) Yurt; her six grandchildren; and her two great- grandchildren.

A celebration of Joey’s remarkable life will be held on Friday, December 6, at 2:00 PM at The Windsong Event Center, 2901 Saddler Boulevard, Fort Collins. Reception to immediately follow the service. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to attend and honor her legacy of faith, kindness, and love.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly request that donations be made to Dream Makers, a nonprofit that is on a mission to change the lives of youth who have aged out of foster care by connecting the community to their needs.
