Manaline Dunlap Gibson
December 24th, 1930 - November 29th, 2024
Manaline Dunlap Gibson, age 93 of Wilmington, NC, passed away on November 29, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. She was born in Stokes County, NC on December 24, 1930 to Manley and Beatrice Reid Dunlap who preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, H. Pratt Dunlap.
Manaline leaves a legacy of devotion to her family and others. She was deeply committed to her marriage to R. Wayne Gibson, which lasted for 68 years until his death in 2018. Her family will hold close her unconditional love, kind heart and warm smile (and her delicious cakes!).
As an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, she served in many roles and supported the work of the United Methodist Women. She was also a faithful volunteer for the North Carolina Sorosis. Outside of her family, what Manaline enjoyed most was helping others at a personal level. She was often found visiting the ill, transporting friends to doctors' visits, and preparing meals for bereaved families. Never one to be idle, she worked as a bookkeeper for the American Red Cross and other organizations over the years and later became a real estate agent.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Powell; son Richard and wife Denise; son Reid; grandchildren Michael Stark and wife Emily: Jonathan Stark; Andrew Gibson and wife Sean; Mary Grace and Pierce Gibson; Anna, Layne and William Gibson; great- grandchildren Oliver, Eleanor, Reid, and Sally Stark; Wyatt and Wells Gibson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church for family and close friends at a later date in 2025.

The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
