Roy James Havens passed away unexpectedly while doing what he loved most -watching a Florida State football game with his son. He spent his formative years with his beloved grandmother in Tabb, Virginia, where he learned the importance of love and caring for others. His high school days were spent in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, where he shone as an accomplished athlete, excelling in football, track, and basketball.
A proud Marine, Roy believed that his service transformed his life, instilling a strong sense of patriotism. Above all, he took immense pride in his 59 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Cathy, and in his children, Alison and James, and grandchildren, Parker, Riley, Matthew and Jack.
Roy's passion for life extended into bird watching, golfing, and stargazing. He spent countless evenings under the night sky, enjoying a cigar and a sip of bourbon. His career in retail and wholesale apparel took him across the nation, allowing him to forge deep friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Music, laughter, and games with family brought him joy, and he was especially proud to bring "Wreaths Across America" to the Lowcountry, making a meaningful impact in his community.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Havens; daughter Alison Schreiner and son-in-law Paul; son James Havens and daughter-in-law Donna Kay; and his beloved grandchildren, who were the light of his life: Matthew and Jack Schreiner, and Parker and Riley Havens.
A service to honor Roy's life will take place on Saturday, March 8th at Port Royal Golf & Racquet Club at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting his cherished nonprofit, Tunnel to Towers, to help continue his legacy of service and care for others.
