Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services - Ladson
Richard Charles McGough, Sr
May 24th, 1960 - November 19th, 2024
Richard Charles McGough Sr. of Summerville, SC went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, November 19th 2024. Richard’s life began on May 24th, 1960 in Argentina, South America, where his parents served as missionaries. He was the second youngest of 6 children, and remained close to his siblings throughout his life. His family moved back to Texas in 1967 when he was almost 7 years old. In 1977, at the age of 17 years old, he married the love of his life and joined the United States Navy. He served in the military as a submariner and an instructor for 10 years, with most of his time being stationed in Charleston, South Carolina. In 1979, he had his first child, Angela, followed by his son Richard in 1981 and Johnathan in 1984.
First and foremost, Richard was a Christian, who loved the Lord and lived his life with many of the attributes modeled to us by Jesus in the Bible. He was loving and kind, possessing a gentle nature. He was one of the most generous people you might ever meet; always thinking of others. He was an excellent listener, never having an unkind word to say about anyone. When in his presence, you received his undivided attention. He often took under his wing, people who were struggling or going through rough times. He helped them through their difficulties with a listening ear, wise advice, monetary help, and sometimes even a couch to sleep on. He received a great deal of joy through sending little gifts to his children, grandchildren, siblings, and co-workers, and he did this on a regular basis. (Amazon will truly miss his presence.)
At home he was an affirming, affectionate, and loving father and grandfather. He was playful, told the best bedtime stories, and always had a joke or a magic trick to share. He would often say that his greatest accomplishments in life were his 3 children. He was very proud of them, as well as his 11 grandchildren. His legacy continues in the way that he taught his children to love people, pouring that same love into each of them, which they now have the opportunity to pour into others.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on
December 14th at 11:00am at Northwood Church,
4020 2nd Avenue, Summerville, SC 29486.
