Douglas Wallace Colbert (Jefferson)
82, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on November 24, 2024. Born on June 20, 1942, in Idabel, Oklahoma, Douglas was the loving husband of Frances Day Colbert, devoted father to Paula Tighe (Phil), Delinda Colbert, and proud grandfather of Tyler Reiter. Douglas also cared deeply for his stepchildren Michelle Day, Steve Day, Nick Day (Debbie), Cheryl Schoneweis (Mark), and Joel Day, along with their children and grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Douglas was a proud Native American Choctaw. He attended school at the Jones Academy and enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17. After his military service, Douglas enjoyed a rewarding 33-year career at United Airlines in Ramp Services, retiring in December 1997. He was known for his patriotism and remained actively involved in the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, the Democratic Party, and was a proud member of the American Legion.
A lifelong learner, Douglas was an avid reader and passionate traveler who loved exploring the world. He was deeply committed to his family and community, always generous, caring, and supportive of others.
He was predeceased by his mother, Belinda Colbert; his son, Douglas Colbert Jefferson, Jr.; his siblings Vivian Nesheim, Mike Van White, Otho Adams Jr., Mary Lou Ballard, and Julia Star; and stepchildren Michelle Day and Joel Day and step grandson, Alexander Schoneweis.
On Thursday, December 12th, we will come together for an interment service at Ft. Logan Cemetery at 10:30 am, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd, Denver, CO, Please meet at Staging Area C no later than 10:15, followed by the recitation of the Rosary at Holy Name Catholic Church Chapel, 3290 W. Milan Avenue, Sheridan, CO, at the SW entrance of the church. In that sacred space, we will remember Douglas in prayer. Afterward, we will gather for lunch in the St. Agnes Center to celebrate Doug's life, sharing stories, memories, and moments that reflect the person we loved and will always carry with us.
