Gloria Deloris Stone
December 21st, 1927 - November 23rd, 2024
Gloria D Stone passed away peacefully at home on November 23, 2024, just a month short of her 97th birthday. She was a warm and loving mother, grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed. Services will be held in the Spring at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
She was born in Gretna, Nebraska on December 21st, 1927 to John and Margret (Madge) Frederick. Gloria attended schools in Pleasanton and Kearney, Nebraska and graduated from North Platte High School in 1945. After High School, she began working as a medical receptionist at doctor’s offices. It was while working there that she met her future husband when he came in to the doctor to have a piece of metal removed from his hand. She later worked as a typist in Radiology at St. Mary’s Hospital and then in Medical Records at Great Plains Medical Center in North Platte.
She married Forest J (Jack) Stone on Leap Day, February 29th, 1948 and they raised 3 children in North Platte during their 55 years together. Gloria was an active and involved mother who worked as a Den Mother in the Boy Scouts, an Assistant Leader in the Campfire Girls, Room Mother in her children’s elementary schools, and taught Sunday School for 3 and 4 years olds at the Methodist Church for 8 years. She also was one of the founders of a Women’s Pinochle Club that met regularly to play cards and socialize together for 50 years. She enjoyed camping and traveling, visiting children and grandchildren, sewing, crocheting, and crafts. She and her husband enjoyed gardening together and Gloria canned her own home grown vegetables for many years. She and her husband moved to Phoenix, Arizona in January, 1999. Gloria remained there after the death of her husband in 2003, until she moved to Colorado in 2012.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Lawrence, Doug, and Jim Frederick, one sister Luree Swedberg, and her husband Jack Stone.
Gloria leaves behind her three children, Rocky Stone, Dan Stone and his wife Dee, Cindy Peak and her husband Gary, three grandchildren, Rob Stone and his wife Shizuka, Tiffany Stone, and Jaime Peak, three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Doug, and Damion Stone, and one brother John (Jack) Frederick.
