John K. Haralson
May 10th, 1935 - December 1st, 2024
John Kenneth Haralson, Sr. passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on May 10, 1935, Ken lived a life marked by integrity, hard work, service to others, and a delightful sense of humor.
Ken grew up in Old Hickory, Tennessee, graduated from DuPont High School, and became the first person in his family to graduate college, earning his degree from Middle Tennessee State College in 1957. Shortly after, he began his career at the Old Hickory DuPont plant as an hourly worker, steadily rising through the ranks to management. His career took him to DuPont's Cooper River Plant in South Carolina and concluded at the Chattanooga Plant, where he made a lasting impact on colleagues and the community alike.
An avid sports fan, Ken had a lifelong love for Vanderbilt athletics and the Atlanta Braves. He was also a passionate marathon runner, achieving the remarkable feat of qualifying for and completing the Boston Marathon in his 50’s. Beyond his personal pursuits, he gave back to his community in countless ways: coaching youth baseball teams, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity for over 20 years, and actively participating as a 35-year member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Ken was predeceased in 2023 by his wife of 60 years, Peggy Williams Haralson, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love, as well as his parents, Joe & Naomi Haralson and his sister, Betty Welch. He leaves behind his daughter, LeeAnn Harris (Rusty) of Gastonia, North Carolina; his son, John Haralson (Linn) of Seattle, Washington; seven amazing grandchildren and his sister, Sandra Haralson Pigue (Jerry).
Ken’s family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga, continuing his legacy of compassion and service to others.
A service to celebrate his life will take place early in the new year.
