Gary Lee Robbins, 80, of Sun City Center, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday November 30, 2024.

 

Gary was born on January 12, 1944, to Verma Viola Collins and Howard Robbins in Lansing, Michigan. Gary attended Eastern High School in Lansing. He began his 20-year US Army career in 1961 and retired as a CW02 in Fort Hood, Texas in 1981. His military decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He earned a Bachelor’s degree, and a Master’s degree in Administrative Science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Following his military retirement, Gary went on to have a long civilian career as a Senior Systems Analyst at SRS Technologies and Sigmatech.

 

In his retirement, Gary enjoyed traveling, his morning coffee runs to McDonalds, reading his daily newspapers in their entirety, talking about how much he loved the Republican Party, going on cruises and fishing with his wife as well as spending time with his daughter and her family.

 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Verma Viola Collins and Howard Robbins, and stepmother, Hazel Robbins, his sisters, Barbara Jean and Marjorie A. Pierson, and brother, George Robbins. He is survived by his beloved wife, Anna Maria Amar-Robbins, his daughter Daniella Robbins Pigott and her husband, David Pigott, his beloved granddaughter, London Pigott of Birmingham, Alabama, his sisters, Connie (Butch) Williams, Diane (Don) Adams, and brother-In-law Dick Pierson.

 

Viewing will be on Monday December 9th, from 3PM to 5PM at the Sun City Center Funeral home at 1851 Rickenbacker Dr, Sun City Center, FL 33573. The graveside services will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery at 9810 State Road 72 in Sarasota, FL 34241 on December 10, 2024, at 11 am. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Military Assistance Program (vfw.org), an organization that Gary strongly supported.
