Charlotte, NC - Sara Lynn Sellers, of Charlotte, NC, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away peacefully at home with family at her side on Tues., Dec. 3, after a decade-long battle with multiple medical conditions. Born Nov. 12, 1944, in Clinton, SC, to the late Robert DeWese Lynn, Sr., and Evelyn Frances McDowell Lynn, Sara attended high school at Hutchison School in Memphis, TN, and was graduated from Florida State University (FSU) with a degree in elementary education. FSU was where she met future husband H. Dean Sellers. A member of Phi Mu Sorority, Sara was also a little sister in Dean’s fraternity, Lambda Chi Alpha.
Married in Dec. 1965 before graduating in 1966, they celebrated 58 years of marriage, including being loving parents of daughter Donna and son Robert.
From a long line of educators, Sara began teaching full-time in 1966, continued as a substitute teacher during their time in New Providence, NJ, and remained active after the family moved to Charlotte in 1981, tutoring for several years at Rama Road Elementary School.
Community involvement was always important to Sara; she was on the board of The Guild of Discovery Place and Nature Museum and volunteered at Room at the Inn and Meals on Wheels, as well as actively
contributing at Sardis Presbyterian Church.
Family was the central focus of Sara’s life. She is survived by her husband, daughter Donna Lynn Sellers of Seattle, WA, son Robert (Daniel) of Pawley’s Island, SC, brother Robert D. (Sandy) Lynn, Jr., (Wende) of Norcross, GA, sister Elizabeth Jane Hayes (Buddy) of Birmingham, AL, niece Sara E. Stewart (Robby), also of Birmingham, and other family she loved greatly.
The family deeply appreciates the loving caregiving by Tami Pinzon, Sherri Grooms, Amelia Legault-Stranaly, and numerous Visiting Angels.
Donations in her memory to Thornwell Home for Children in Clinton, SC (thornwell.org) are welcome.
A service to celebrate Sara’s life will be held Mon., Dec. 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Sardis Presbyterian Church, with a reception afterward. The service will be live-streamed on Sardis’ YouTube channel -- https://www.youtube.com/@SardisPresbyterianChurch -- and a recording will remain available for a few days.
