Richard J. Logan, 77, of Northampton, NY, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital following a courageous battle with a rare form of leukemia, surrounded by his loving wife, Linda S. (Brott) Logan, and his devoted son, Dustin A. Logan. Born on November 14, 1947, in Gloversville, NY, Richard was the son of the late Bernard and Jessica Logan. His life was a testament to service, leadership, and devotion to his family and friends.

A devoted husband, Richard married the love of his life, Linda, on December 16, 1989. Together, they walked through life hand in hand, building a life filled with love, partnership, and cherished memories for 35 wonderful years. He was a proud and loving father to his son, Dustin A. Logan, and a supportive father-in-law to Brooke B. Logan. He was known as "Silly Grandpa," he brought joy and laughter to his grandchildren, Elliot A. Logan and Scout R. Logan, who adored his playful spirit, loving heart, and an occasional rousing game of checkers.

He is survived by his loving sisters, Susan J. Lebo and Martha L. King; his mother-in-law, Geraldine Mattice; sisters-in-law, Sally Stankes (Robert), Jeri Wagner, and Catherine Maragno (Robert); and his brother-in-law, Richard Mattice. A host of nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart also survive him, including Heather Bivins (Jeffrey), Audrey Wagner (Jeremy), Yahn Lebo (Jennifer), Jeffrey Logan (Patti), Christian King (Filomena), Adam King (Chun), David Maragno (Angie),Christopher Stankes (Tammy), and Brian Stankes (Jessica).

He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard S. and Jessica L. Logan; his brother, John G. Logan Sr.; nephew, John Logan Jr.; father-in-law, Richard Mattice; nephew-in-law, Alan Mattice; and sister-in-law, Linda Mattice.

Sharing a lifelong friendship of over 70 years with Thomas Johnson, often referred to as his "sandbox buddy," Richard found extended family in Thomas, his wife Susan Johnson, and their children, Sean, Patrick, and Molly. The two families shared a bond of deep loyalty, shared memories, and enduring love.

After graduating from Gloversville High School with the class of 1965, Richard went on to honorably  serve his country in the United States Navy, completing two tours in Vietnam aboard the USS New Jersey (BB-62) and the USS Saint Paul (CA-73) as a Fire Control Technician, where his dedication and bravery shone brightly. After his military service, Richard embarked on a distinguished 37-year career with Frontier Communications as a Supervisor Senior Engineer Circuit Design. Through his career, Richard became known for his dedication, professionalism, and strong work ethic. He was also a long-time member of the Concordia Club in Gloversville, NY, and the Mayfield Service Members Club.

Becoming a leader in the Boy Scouts alongside his son, Dustin, he shared unforgettable adventures and imparted valuable life lessons to the next generation. Richard passed down his love of the Adirondacks, hiking its trails with Dustin just as he once did with his own father. Through his guidance and encouragement, Richard inspired Dustin to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, a reflection of their shared dedication to scouting and the outdoors.

His love for the Sacandaga in Northampton, NY was deeply rooted in family history. In 1961, Richard's father purchased property along the lake, where his mother operated a store and managed a trailer park for many years. It was here that Richard formed countless lifelong friendships and created cherished memories. In 2017, Richard fulfilled a dream by building a home on the family property, ensuring the traditions and spirit of the Sacandaga would continue for future generations.

He will forever be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones. His legacy of service, love, and leadership will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
