Edward "Fast Eddie" LeRoy Chandler
October 17th, 1941 - October 12th, 2024
Edward LeRoy "Fast Eddie" Chandler passed away November 12, 2024, he was 82 years old. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 17, 1941 to William and Dewey Chandler.
"Fast" joined the Air Force after graduating from Putnam City High School. He was a crew chief on the B-58 fighter bomber. He later joined the Air Force reserves as a flight engineer on the C-130 stationed out of Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.
After leaving the Air Force Reserves, he pursued his dream of becoming a pilot, starting with Overseas National Airways, then to Hawaiian Airlines, and finally America West Airlines where he retired as a captain on the Boeing 757. After mandatory retirement from the airlines, Fast flew for various charter companies as a way to continue his love of flying.
The Federal Aviation Administration awarded Fast the Wright Brothers Master Pilot award for recognition of 50 plus years of aviation excellence. The Wright Brothers award is the most prestigious honor awarded to pilots by the Federal Aviation Administration who have demonstrated professionalism, skill and expertise for at least 50 years.
Ed is survived by one daughter, Lori Ann Colbart and two sons, Raymond and Landon Chandler, and multiple grand children.
Services will be held at a future date at Billy Turner Veteran's Cemetary in Ardmore, Oklahoma. A celebration of life will be held in Phoenix, Arizona at a future date.
