Darrell Brian McGowan
May 18th, 1956 - November 29th, 2024
Darrell Brian McGowan, 68, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on May 18, 1956, in Joliet, Illinois, Darrell was the beloved first son of Naomi Hogue McGowan and Henry Dove McGowan.
Darrell shared 48 beautiful years of marriage with his cherished wife, Sun. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and meaningful memories. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Ann McGowan; his loving mother, Naomi McGowan; and his siblings, Lori McGowan, Roger (Vieda) McGowan, Marcia (Greg) Taylor, Karla McGowan, and Renee McGowan. Darrell’s life was also enriched by a large and deeply connected extended family who loved him dearly.
A proud patriot, Darrell served his country with honor and distinction as a 1st Sergeant in the United States Army for 21 years. During his military career, he worked as a Signals Intelligence Analyst and Infantryman, serving overseas in Germany and Korea before making Colorado his permanent home. Following his military service, he earned an Associate of Arts and Science in Electronics and Engineering Technology from Intellitec College and later embarked on a career in real estate.
Faith and service were central to Darrell’s life. As a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he embraced countless opportunities to serve and uplift others. Whether teaching Sunday school, advising young men, serving as Ward Sunday School President, working in Primary, or singing in the church choir—a gift inherited from his mother—Darrell’s faith radiated through his kindness and compassion. Known for his warm and welcoming smile, he delighted in greeting others at the chapel, offering each person a sense of belonging and friendship.
Darrell found joy in connecting with people from all walks of life, sharing stories, laughter, and wisdom. He cherished road trips with his family, casual walks with his two beloved corgis, and cheering on his favorite teams, the Denver Broncos and Colorado Avalanche.
A celebration of Darrell’s life will take place on Friday, December 13, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1705 N Murray Blvd, Colorado Springs, Colorado. A viewing for family and friends will be held at 8:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Darrell will be laid to rest with full military honors at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Darrell’s life was a testament to love, service, and unwavering faith. May his memory inspire us to lead with kindness, embrace others with compassion, and cherish every moment we have together. His legacy of warmth and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
