Bernard Michael Rumpca was born April 3, 1933 in Waubay, South Dakota to Paul Rumpca and Veronica (Block) Rumpca . He grew up in Webster on the family farm. He joined the Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957 as PVT-1st Class. He served in Anchorage, Alaska and Fort Lewis, Washington. He worked as a machinist for his career.
He met his love, Grace Kramer and they shared 65 years of marriage. Their first home was in Aberdeen and they then moved to the Black Hills area and resided in Pluma. They moved to Oregon in the summer 1965. Their last home was in Canby, Oregon. They raised three children, Sheryl, Steve, and Bryan.
He was known as Bernie to family and friends. He had a strong love for his family and was thrilled when grandbabies arrived. Nothing made him happier than having the “kiddies” around. He also had quite a mechanical knack and was adept at fixing cars and every lawn mower he could find. He was always willing to lend a hand to a neighbor or friend. His most loved hobby was fishing and spent as much time as he could fishing with his family, grandkids, and buddies. Bernie loved talking to people...friend or stranger! He loved a good laugh and so often we would hear, “What a good guy your dad is”.
Bernard is survived by his daughter Sheryl (Stephen) Heston, sons Steve (Gail) Rumpca, and Bryan (Erica) Rumpca, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren with one more arriving in December, brothers Paul Rumpca, Lavern Rumpca, Leo (Delores) Rumpca, and James Rumpca, and two sisters Genevieve Hojnacke and Melvina (Cliff) Terry.
Bernard is preceded in death by his wife, Grace (Kramer) Rumpca, his parents, sister Adeline Larson, aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces.
