Peggy Ann (Moore) Sweeney, 75, the loving wife of Robert Sweeney and devoted mother of Kellie Ann Sweeney went to be with her parents, Alice and Pat Moore and her sister Patty on December 6, 2024. Born September 8, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah, she travelled the world with her parents as her father was a career Army office who attained the rank of Colonel prior to his retirement from the service.

She was a highly accomplished commercial artist for her entire adult life, as she had been school trained at the Omaha Art School in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating in 1969. While working as an illustrator for the Army in 1972 at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, she met Robert, an Army Captain at the time, and he became the love of her life.  They married in 1973 and had Kellie in 1975.

Being used to being a military dependent with her parents, she became the ideal Army wife, travelling the world with her family.  Upon Robert’s retirement from the service as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1990, the family settled in Woodbridge, VA, just south of Washington, DC.  She and her partner, Betsy, opened a country craft shop business in the little town of Occoquan, VA which they had for over 25 years.  Peggy painted seasonal scenes on wooden bowls, plates and breadboards while Betsy handled the business end of things.

In 2014, Peggy and Robert decided to retire to Charlotte, NC, at the recommendation of daughter Kellie, a Flight Attendant with American Airlines.  For the last 10 years, Peggy has been an active volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Wendover Road.

She is also survived by brothers Joe Moore of Dothan AL and Bill Moore of Powhatan, VA and sister Becky Moore-Fucci of Richmond, VA, as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1pm to 4pm Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.

Whittington took the reins of the Crouch Funeral Home. The growth of our service and the community's support led to our move in March 1963 to the current location—once St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, built in 1930. Our chapel, a cherished historic landmark within the storied Dilworth neighborhood, is renowned for being the only funeral home in Charlotte graced with its own chapel, echoing with decades of history and serenity....
