George "Punk" Kostur
July 7th, 1941 - November 28th, 2024
George Kostur was born in Denver, Colorado, on July 7, 1941. Affectionately nicknamed "Punk" by his uncle, the name stuck and became the only name his family used for him from then on.
George attended East High School until he joined the Navy in 1958. After serving his country and being honorably discharged in 1962, he returned to Denver, where he met the love of his life, Judy. They married in April 1964. George then began a long and dedicated career with Public Service Company of Colorado, working in the gas division for 38 years before retiring. He formed numerous lifelong friendships, many of which he cherished and maintained until his passing.
George had a passion for camping, fishing, and bowling, and he enjoyed sharing an occasional beer with family, friends, and co-workers. He was a music enthusiast, particularly fond of 50s and 60s country and rock and roll, and 40s and 50s pop. In recent years, George found joy in building decorative lanterns with Judy and his sister, Gail. They generously donated several lanterns to the families of fallen law officers, and the last one he built is here with us today. In his final act of kindness, George donated his pacemaker to a local veterinary hospital to help save the life of an animal.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Judy; his sisters, Gail Payne and Connie (Gary) Coven; his sister-in-law, Janet Behrens; three nieces, five nephews, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eunice; his father, George; and his brother, Donald. His ashes will be entombed at Ft. Logan Cemetery.
