Burton “Burt” Owen Carney, 81, of Tucson, AZ passed away on December 7, 2024, at his home with his wife by his side.
He was born on February 28, 1943, in Seattle, WA to Burton Joseph Carney and Sylvia Eva Carney and was the older brother to Carol and Rosemary.
Following the death of his father, Burt and his family moved to Cheney WA. A few years later, he and his family moved to the Oregon coast where he later graduated from Taft High School. He went on to earn a BA in Education at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA and an MA in Christian School Administration at Grace College and Seminary in Winona Lake, IN. He enjoyed a career in Christian education; first as a teacher and principal before serving as Director for Legal/Legislative Issues at Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). Burt retired from ACSI after more than 20 years of service.
On December 18, 1993, Burt married Edith Joy Newman of Sierra Vista, AZ with whom he shared extensive travel, good friends, and families for nearly 31 years of marriage.
His parents preceded him in death.
He leaves behind younger sisters Carol Thompson and Rosemary Griggs, his wife, Edith, and three adult stepchildren David Newman (Ruth), Blake Newman (Andrea) and Deborah Holmstrom (Todd) along with nine grandchildren.
Cremation services have been entrusted to Adair Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at Adair Funeral Home, 8090 N. Northern Ave., Tucson, AZ 85704 on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 10:30 am.
Burt’s ardent desire is that his extended family and friends would also come to know and follow Christ and someday meet him in a joyous reunion in heaven.
