“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” AA Milne
Robert E. Custer, of Washington Township, formerly Williamstown, NJ, passed away on December 9th, 2024, at the age of 94.
Born and raised in Glassboro to the late John and Ethel (nee Nolf) Custer on August 17th, 1930, Robert is the youngest brother of the late Elmer, Marion, and Jack. Bob attended Glassboro High School which led to him meeting the love of his life, Florence (nee Manziano), while she was attending Glassboro State College. Florence remembers fondly of how kind and charismatic Bob was at their first meeting. The pair became inseparable, marrying on December 5th, 1954, spending a loving 70 years together. Florence and Bob shared their love by welcoming their two loving children, Garry (Denise), and Guy. Bob enjoyed hunting in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, often with his sons and other family members. He also had a passion for auto racing. Bob and Flo spent summer vacations at Pine Haven Campground in Ocean View, NJ, for 43 summers.
Bob's world became much brighter when he became the cherished grandfather of John, Kathryn, Meghan, Emily, and Matthew. Bob thrived as their grandfather and enjoyed spending much of his time with his family. He spent many years being the prankster of his family reunions, lovingly nicknamed "Crazy Uncle Bob" by the children of his nieces and nephews John, Tina, Dolly, Jack, and Joan.
Bob could often be found with his hunting buddies at the Glassboro Rod and Gun Club, of which his father was one of the original members, or participating in races with the American TQ Midget Racing Association. Bob proudly owned Custer Craft Body Shop since 1969 and was eventually joined by Guy in the business. Bob was a proud veteran (medic) of the United States National Guard from 1949 to 1957. He also enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and putting smiles on the faces of those dearest to him.
Bob will be remembered for his charismatic and kind personality, and his love for his family.
Services will be held privately.
