Memorial

Dewey “Jack” Brewer Jr. passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

A lifelong resident of Guilford County, he was born May 15, 1934 to the late Dewey Lee Brewer, Sr. and Swannie Spencer Brewer.

He graduated from Greensboro Senior High School in 1952. He recently attended his 72nd reunion.

His banking career began with Home Federal Savings and Loan. He remained there through many changes until it became Sun Trust.  Following retirement in 1996 he became a full-time Papa and worked for Show Pros at the Greensboro Coliseum. He made many wonderful friends while working in the banking industry and with Show Pros.

He loved being a part of what was happening in his city. He was a member of the Greensboro Jaycees and later a Jaycee Old-timer. He and his wife were avid supporters of the Greensboro Generals, Greensboro Monarchs, and the Greensboro Prowlers. While his wife worked with the local baseball teams, the Greensboro Bats, the Greensboro Hornets, and the Greensboro Grasshoppers, he was a constant fixture.

He always had a heart for baseball. He wanted to share that love with the youth of the city. He coached little league baseball and later became the Treasurer of Greensboro Palomino Baseball for more than 25 years.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life for 58 years, Rosalee. He is survived by daughter, Joanna Whitesell and Van of Greensboro; son, Mitch Brewer of Burlington; and grandchildren, Spencer Whitesell and Madison Whitesell. He loved his “village” like they were his own.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 13th, 2024 at Pierce Jefferson Lambeth Chapel at 300 West Wendover Ave, Greensboro, NC 27408.
