Obituary for Thomas Perry Lewis
Thomas Perry Lewis, born on December 17, 1938, in Lordsburg, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, just shy of his 86th birthday. Known to all as "Pete," he was a true cowboy at heart, embodying the values of hard work, integrity, and a deep love of the Western way of life. His passion for horses, particularly Quarter Horses, was a hallmark of his character, and he spent over 60 years breeding and raising a distinguished line of horses. He passed that love on to his grandchildren, instilling in them the same love and passion for horses.
Pete’s devotion to his family and faith was unwavering. He was a beloved husband to his wife of 66 years, Sandra Elnora Lewis, with whom he built a life full of love, commitment, and shared values. Together, they raised a family that reflects Pete’s enduring strength and wisdom.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sandy, his four children: Thomas Perry Lewis II and his wife Lynette, Stephanie Terrell and her husband Robert, Kelly Thatcher and her husband Floyd, and Gary Lewis and his wife Penny. Known as “Pa,” Pete was a proud grandfather to 20 grandchildren and the cherished great-grandfather to 23 great-grandchildren.
Pete’s life was a testament to his enduring strength, faith, and deep love for Sandy and his family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of cowboy wisdom and love will live on in those who knew and loved him.
