The Springs Funeral Services - Platte
Ingeborg B Barrowclough
February 24th, 1928 - December 9th, 2024
Inge Barrowclough passed away December 9, 2024, and the world lost a generous and loving woman.
She was born February 24, 1928 to Luise and Ernst Lammarsch in Mannheim, Germany, where she grew up during the hardships of World War II, and where, not long after the war ended, she was crowned Miss Mannheim at the age of 18. A year or two later she went to work in an office run by an American GI, John Barrowclough, who turned out to be the love of her life. They married in Germany and had a daughter (Edith) then moved to the US. For the next 20 years they moved here and there (Germany, London, Libya and several places in the US), had two sons (JD and Patrick), and then lived for many years in Moline, IL, before finally settling in Colorado Springs. Inge and John were married for 59 years, until John passed away in 2009.
Inge was also predeceased by her daughter Edith, and is survived by sons JD and Patrick, as well as five grandchildren (Rebeckah, Brandon, Adam, Julie, and Ethan), and four great-grandchildren.
After raising her three kids - at times by herself while John was on extended overseas tours of duty - she opened Riverside Antiques by the Mississippi river in Moline. After moving to the Springs she continued in the antique business until just a few months ago when she finally closed down her last booth. Inge always stayed busy, for several years volunteering on a regular basis at the Air Force Academy pharmacy office, and stayed mentally sharp learning and practicing French and doing the daily games and puzzles in the Gazette. She was blessed to be able to live on her own in her own home (with lots of assistance from JD and his wife Emily) until the end.
Inge was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a good friend to many. Through the years she acted as a den mother to several Scout packs, a classroom parent at various schools, and played games for hours with her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening. She loved to travel: She and John returned to Germany many times, and traveled together to several other countries as well. After John passed away she continued to travel with her family often, both in the US (especially Alaska and Hawaii) and overseas. Inge had a good sense of humor, and loved sharing her stories, often making a good story even better in the telling of the tale. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Pines, 11020 Teachout Rd, Colorado Springs, December 20 at 10:30 a.m. Gravesite burial will be family only.
