John William Linzee IV
October 8th, 1958 - October 26th, 2024
John William Linzee IV was born October 8, 1958 in Boston, at Boston Lying-In, to Reverend (Attorney) John William Linzee III and Faith Andrews Linzee of Berlin, Massachusetts. He died in Olympia, Washington on October 26, 2024, of complications following surgery.
John grew up in Berlin, graduated from Tahanto Regional High School, and received an A. S. in forestry and civil engineering from the University of Maine, Orono. He was a professional licensed surveyor, who worked for a number of different surveying and engineering firms, the Washington Department of Natural Resources, and most recently, for Hatton Godat Pantier in Olympia. He served on the board of the Land Surveyors of Washington from 2018 – 2021, and also as President of the Southwest Chapter of LSAW.
John was an active member of the South Bay Grange in Olympia for over 20 years and Grange Master for many, devoting extensive volunteer time toward maintenance and events. He enjoyed many outdoor activities: hiking, swimming, skiing, rowing, kayaking, fishing, and gardening. His interests ranged from woodworking to nautical history, and he was most at home in the woods or on the water. John was a passionate contra dancer and loved to bake, especially to share with family, friends and co-workers.
He is survived by his fiancée Narda Crew, his son, John Jr., his mother Faith Linzee, his sister Jill and her husband David Bilski, his brother Kendall and his wife Anastasia Barnes, and his nephew Tor Linzee, his wife Lauren Morrow, and their son Beckett.
He will be greatly missed by both his east coast and west coast extended family and friends, as he made a point of staying in touch with many of them over the years. He was a member of the Linzee Family Association of America, and the Bunker Hill Monument Association. There will be two memorial services for John, one in Berlin and another in Olympia, WA, both in the spring of 2025.
He believed in encouraging young people who wanted to be trained as professional land surveyors, and donations in his memory can be made to the John W. Linzee Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Educational Foundation of the Land Surveyors Association of Washington.
